According to CarScoops, the Mercedes EQ electric model family range is set to get a completely bespoke sedan. While most of us thought an all-electric C-Class was among the first models to be revealed, it seems the Stuttgart based carmaker is taking a different direction. While the vehicle is slated to be similar in size to the current C-Class, it will be a completely different platform upon which, the new EQ sedan will build from. This was revealed by the C-Class chief engineer Christian Frueh recently confirmed to Autocar earlier his week.

The plan for the all-electric EQ sedan goes hand in hand with the path set by the car maker that emphasizes their ultimate goal to drop 10 new electric vehicle models by 2025. All of these vehicles are slated to use the same Modular Electric Architecture (MRA) and share design cues from the rest of the brand’s hybrid and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) models currently offered.

Currently, the first confirmed all-electric model in the EQ range set to debut is the EQ C SUV (Sports Activity Vehicle). Sharing a similar size aspect as the Mercedes-Benz GLC, it’s designed will, however, be heavily influenced by the EQ concept car Mercedes revealed earlier. Recently, winter testing of the Mercedes EQ C was completed in northern Sweden and according to info we’ve received, when the all-electric luxury SUV hits the road, it is slated to have a range of up to 500km (310 miles).

Production of the Mercedes-Benz EQ C is scheduled to commence in 2019. Currently, no direct performance specs or pricing has been revealed. Grab a look at the EQ concept car in the media gallery right below.
